Batavia Half Madness Half Marathon  August 28th 2011

Already registered for the Batavia Half Madness Half Marathon on August 28th and would like to run for our cause? No worries – we’d love to have you on our team so please contact Theresa Solomon and she will walk you through the easy steps to switch your registration. The fundraising amount remains at the pre-close amount of $350 if you are already registered.

Are you ready to make a change?  Do you want to better your life and at the same time make a difference in a sick child’s life? Do you want to wake up every morning feeling strong and powerful in the body you have been given?  It’s time you take control of the world you live in – you deserve it and so does your family!

Cal’s All-Star Angel Foundation would like you to consider “Running with the wings of our angels.” Your commitment will make a difference in the lives of children battling cancer and their families.  If you’re saying “I’m not a runner, I can’t do this, I don’t have time,” so did 57 of our runners last year who all finished their half or full marathon (20 of whom never ran before training) and raised $37,000.  To read their stories click here.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a couch potato looking to make a change or a seasoned runner – it’s believing that you can do it. It doesn’t have to be “blood, sweat & tears” to finish a race.  It is a 3 month commitment of time and energy but an attainable goal at any age or fitness level. It is more of a mental obstacle than talent or physical ability.  Don’t let the thought of running intimidate you, we have all levels of athletes.

Cal’s Angels will provide you with:

· Complimentary pre-training for new runners (this will be provided by a seasoned runner)
· A “kick off to training run” in June
· Complimentary group training runs based on your running/walking pace
· Fundraising page provided.  All you have to do is email it out to family, friends and co-workers
· Hydration provided on the Great Western Trail for weekend runs
· Cal’s Angels’ dri-fit running shirt.

Dateline – Batavia Half Marathon

From the Kane County Chronicle:

Runners flock to half-marathon in Batavia. [Excert from article] South Elgin resident Tom Sutter was running in his first half-marathon to honor the memory of his son, Cal, who died five years ago from leukemia at age 13. Tom was part of a large group of runners that ran as part of a charity, Cal’s Angels, the Sutter started in honor of his son. The organization raises money to help young cancer patients. “Someone pointed out that the race was the fifth anniversary [of Cal's death]
… and that Cal would be proud if I did it,” said Sutter, 44. He finished the race in 2:33.0. Sutter’s wife, Stacey, said the runners raised $25,000 by competing in the race.
