Congratulations John!
John Menken, South Elgin High School
John has proven to be academically and athletically successful throughout his high school years – a very unique
individual you don’t come across too often. In addition to being All-Conference, All-Area and All-State Honorable Mention in baseball, John was also the starting varsity quarterback and team captain for South Elgin High School his junior and senior years. What is so interesting about John is that even though he excels in Athletics he lists his greatest accomplishment as being on the 2009 All-State Academic Team. While being an excellent baseball player throughout his young life, John also has his priorities in order for all the right reasons. From his 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale to the fact that he is part of the “Adopt a Highway” organization, assists with parties for the children’s hospital and participates in the Relay for Life program, John is definitely a wise choice for this scholarship as we know he will do nothing but make us proud that he is one of our scholarship winners.
He is now on to Southern Illinois University where he made the baseball team as a walk on and will concentrate on his studies in Business.
Good luck John!
As noted in the October 7th newsletter. The photos below were taken during a recent scrimmage game, he was playing right field and look what is on the wall behind him at the home stadium - looks like Cal will be looking after him on the field all season long!
