Jared Shurtleff, St. Charles North High School
Congratulations Jared! Jared is one of those rare young men who already knows what he wants to do in life and his sense of self confidence and direction has been evident since he was just a young boy. Starting with his impressive 4.489 GPA on a 4.0 scale to his whopping 31 on the ACT, Jared’s choice of going into the engineering field is definitely a wise one solidifying our feelings that Jared is an excellent choice for this scholarship.
Jared has been a volunteer and member of some very impressive teams, clubs and organizations including all four years of high school on the Baseball Team as a starting pitcher, Math Team qualifying for state once, the Golf Team even though he never played the game until right before he tried out, Basketball Team, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (a math honor society like NHS) and Habitat for Humanity. Interesting note from his younger years of travel baseball – during a U12 tournament in Cooperstown Jared hit a homerun and that ball is now on display in the Hall of Fame there – impressive in itself but even moreso knowing he has always been a pitcher.
He is now on to the University of Illinois – good luck Jared!
